Answered Prayer

God is always faithful; this can be seen throughout Scripture as He fulfilled His promises again and again. He has been so gracious at answering prayer in my life, and I could tell many stories of how He has blessed me through the gift of prayer. The biggest illustration of this is His provision for my family. God has always provided for us.

One example that sticks out in my mind is when my family was serving as missionaries overseas. We were very short of money then, and one evening we used up our last bit of food to feed a visitor. We prayed before he came, knowing that we had to trust the Lord to provide. We ate, enjoyed the meal and the fellowship. Then just as our guest was leaving, he shook hands with my Dad, and left a stack of money in his hand. God had answered our prayers, and provided in an unexpected way.

As the old hymn says, “What a privilege to carry, Everything to God in prayer, O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry, Everything to God in prayer.” That is so true, we miss out on the blessings of answered prayer simply because we do not think of praying. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to cast all our cares upon Him. We can trust Him to answer our prayers now and always.

  1. You are so right Elspeth; many times we simply do not THINK to pray! We spend our time worrying and rushing about trying to solve our own problems (and other people's!), when what we SHOULD be doing is learning to truly "Cast all your care upon Him" (1 Peter 5:7), and trusting the Lord to protect and provide for us.

One of my favourite Scriptures is the one our pastor read me at my baptsim; "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
